Generic Lipitor (Atorvastatin, Lipitor® equivalent)

Lipitor is a prescription medication used along with an overall diet plan in order to lower the patient's level of cholesterol and reduce the risk of heart attack. It has been proven to help reduce patients' LDL cholesterol and triglyceride levels significantly, as well as help in maintaining the low levels in the long term. Lipitor belongs to a class of medications known as statins, which work by blocking an enzyme in the liver that is used in the production of LDL ("bad") cholesterol. The body then produces less LDL, and the level of LDL cholesterol in the blood decreases.

MYTHS AND FACTS ABOUT EXERCISE INJURIES AND DISEASES

Myth
1. When an injury occurs to most body parts, heat should be applied.
2. Ice should be applied directly to the skin for one hour.
3. Individuals who have the wind knocked out of them are in danger of dying.
4. A popping or snapping sound in the knee is a sign of serious trouble.
5. Avoid getting chilled or you will "catch" a cold.
6. Acquiring mumps as an adult will produce sterility.
Fact
1. Injuries to soft tissue should be treated with RICE therapy, which requires ice, not heat. Heat should be avoided for two to three days until swelling begins to subside. Early use of heat in any form increases swelling, delays healing, and can result in serious tissue changes that may require surgery to correct.
2. The maximum amount of time ice should be applied is 20 minutes. Longer periods can actually bring about tissue damage. And it should not come in contact with the skin unless an ice massage is being used.
3. The temporary inability to breathe following a blow to a relaxed midsection will slowly subside until breathing is restored. Meanwhile, you will gasp for breath, possibly suffer dizziness, nausea, weakness, or even collapse. A hard blow to the solar plexus increases intra-abdominal pressure, causes pain, and interferes with the diaphragmatic cycle reflex due to nerve paralysis or muscle spasm. Breathing is only temporarily affected by a blow that momentarily paralyzes the nerve control of the diaphragm. Loosen clothing at the neck and waist; apply ice to the abdomen; and breathe slowly through the nose.
4. The sound generally comes from a tendon flipping over bony fulcrums and may be quite natural in some athletes who just never really noticed the sound before. Joint mice or the presence of some loose cartilage or other tissue may also produce a clicking sound as the knee flexes and extends. Bone, tendon, ligament, or cartilage damage may not be indicated unless other symptoms are present such as inflammation, swelling, fluid, and knee locking.
5. The common cold is transmitted by a virus through direct contact (handshake or contact with soiled objects of an infected person followed by touching a mucous membrane, kissing, or mucus droplets sneezed or coughed into the air). Becoming chilled will not increase your chances of acquiring the common cold.
6. Once the virus replicates and enters the blood, it can localize in the reproductive organs and develop swelling in about 20 percent of males around the age of puberty. The condition passes, however, and generally does not cause sterility.
